This weeks NMS comes with a disclaimer: It’s kinda sad. But you’ll be happy to know it’s for good reason.

Even if this isn’t your kind of tune, it’s okay. There is some talent here that could be appreciated by anybody. There is no box.

This time, the record is Vertigo by Jutes. The evolution of punk, metal, nu-metal, grunge, the emo and the screamo has brought us here. There’s a a long history of diaphragm squeezing within the aforementioned genres, and Jutes is pushing power and tone just as good as some of our favorites.

According to an interview on Nuance, Jutes was signed to Capital Records, but then a pandemic came, budgets got tight and you know what the suits are gonna do. It all worked out for the better as he got to pursue the path of an independent artist – you know, just the way nature intended.
